Tawang War Memorial

Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh is the largest monastery in India. It was founded near the small town of the same name in the northwestern part of Arunachal Pradesh state of India by Merak Lama .

Sela Pass

The Sela Pass (more appropriately called Se La, as La means Pass) is the high-altitude mountain pass located in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh state of India. It has an elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) connects the Buddhist city of Tawang Town to Tezpur and Guwahati and is the main road connecting Tawang with the rest of India. Tawang is situated at a distance of 78 km from Sela Pass while Guwahati is at a distance of 340 km. The pass has hardly any vegetation and is usually snow covered to some extent all through the year.During winter temperature in the pass can go down to -10 degrees.

Jaswant Garh

Rifleman (RFN) Jaswant Singh, number 4039009, was serving with the 4th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles. On 17 November the battalion was subjected to repeated Chinese assaults. A Chinese medium machine gun (MMG) located at a vantage point close to the A company lines was proving to be a dangerous menace.

Sela Peak

Nuranang Water Fall

Nuranang Falls(also known as Bong Bong Falls), some 100 metres high, is located in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is one of the most spectacular waterfall in this part of the country yet unknown to many travelers. It lies some 2 kilometres away from the town of Jang on the road connecting Tawang and Bomdila, so it is also known as the Jang Falls. There is a small hydel plant located near the base that generates electricity for local use.The Nuranang river originates from the Northern slopes of the Sela Pass. Just below the waterfall it falls into the Tawang river.

Gorichen Peak

Gori Chen is a high rock and ice peak and the most western and most easily accessed of the main Arunachal peaks with an elevation of 6,488 metres (21,286ft). It belongs to The Himalaya Mountain Group and is a sub-range to Assam Himalaya. It is also the Headwaters of the Kameng River in Tawang. Today it is the most frequented of the Assam peaks.

Gorsam Chorten

A popular stupa in Arunachal Pradesh, Gorsam Chorten is famous for being one of the oldest stupas in the area. Located in the town of Tawang, midst the verdant greenery of the beautiful state, Gorsam Chorten is believed to have been built during the 12th century by a Monpa monk, Lama Pradhar. The spirituality of Buddhism seem to have surrounded this stupa as you will feel the vibe of divinity as soon as you step inside it.

Gyangong Ani Gompa

Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh has a long tradition of nunneries called the “Ani Gompas”. There are several nunneries located at Tawang. One of the oldest nunnery (Ani Gompa) is the Brama dung- chung Ani Gompa, located 12 kms from Tawang. The Nunnery was commissioned by Karchen Yeshi Gelek in 1595 and houses about 45 nuns.

The Urgelling Gompa was built in around 1489 by Urgen Sangpo. It became a revered gompa after the 6th Dalai Lama Ngawang Gyamtso was born here in the year 1683. But the glory of the gompa was short lived, as the 6th Dalai Lama was deposed in 1706 by Lhazang Khan King of the Khoshut Mongols; an ally of Qing, the then Emperor of China. The 6th Dalai Lama was than replaced by Ngawang Yeshey Gyatso. But the Tibetans only recognized Tsangyang Gyatso as the true Dalai Lama.

Shonga-tser Lake

TShonga-tser Lake is located at a distance of 42 kilometre from Tawang. This lake after the shooting of movie Koyla was named by tourists as Madhuri Lake. Shonga-tser Lake was formed in the aftermath of the earthquake, which occurred in 1950.

Geshila Peak

Geshila Park is the closest peak to Tawang located just 25 km away at Khrimu. Complete serenity, awesome sights and a multitude of scenic picturesque locations to carry back sweet memories.

Brahma-dung-chung Ani Gompa

Brama Dung Chung Ani Gompa (nunnery) is the oldest Ani Gompa (Nunnery) in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh. This nunnery is located in the slopes of a far off mountain enveloped by the pristine beauty of Mother Nature on all sides.
